Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity Statement

The British Double Reed Society (BDRS) is committed to fostering an environment of equality, diversity, and inclusivity within the double reed community. We believe in the power of music to connect people from all walks of life and backgrounds, and we are dedicated to ensuring that everyone feels valued, respected, and welcomed as part of our society. In addition to this statement, the BDRS has signed up to the ISM-MU Code of Practice and is a Fair Access Principle Partner of Sound and Music.

Our Commitment:

(1) Equal Treatment: We are committed to treating all individuals, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or socioeconomic background, with fairness, respect, and dignity.

(2) Diverse Perspectives: We recognise the richness that diverse perspectives bring to our community. We actively seek to amplify voices from all backgrounds, celebrating the differences that make us stronger as a collective.

(3) Inclusive Practices: We strive to create an inclusive environment that promotes participation and involvement for everyone. Our events, programmes, and communications are designed to be accessible and accommodating to all members.

(4) Zero Tolerance for Discrimination: We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, harassment, or exclusion. Such behaviour goes against the values of our society and will not be tolerated.

(5) Continuous Learning: We are committed to continuous learning and improvement. We will actively educate ourselves and our members about issues related to equality, diversity, and inclusivity to foster a more informed and empathetic community.

(6) Representation: We will work to ensure that our leadership, events, and activities reflect the diversity of our membership and the wider double reed community.

(7) Feedback and Accountability: We encourage open dialogue and feedback from our members to hold us accountable for upholding our values. We are committed to addressing any concerns promptly and transparently.

By promoting equality, diversity, and inclusivity, we aspire to create a vibrant and welcoming space for all double reed enthusiasts to connect, learn, and grow together. Our commitment to these values strengthens our community and contributes to a more harmonious and inclusive world.

This statement reflects our dedication to fostering an environment where all members of the British Double Reed Society can thrive. As we move forward, we will continue to take proactive steps to ensure that these principles remain at the heart of everything we do.
