Double Reed News Submission Guidelines

Please submit articles, news of interest, obituaries, and other items to be considered for print via email. The editor will respond to discuss subject matter, length, and so on. These can be sent to Clive Fairbairn (drn@bdrs.org.uk).

Research and analysis-based articles should be the author’s own original work, and present fresh perspectives on topics of pertinence to the Society’s membership.

The magazine is also interested in receiving writing which focuses on practical advice and personal reflections on double reed-related topics.

Submissions which further the Society’s commitment to championing and celebrating diversity, equality, and inclusion in the worldwide double reed community are particularly welcome.

Sheet Music

The British Double Reed Society is proud to celebrate the outstanding compositions that we have commissioned from our Composition Competition prize winners. We are very fortunate that Emerson Edition Ltd has agreed to publish these works under the series title ‘British Double Reed Society Commissions’.

Beak and Worm for solo oboe by Robin Haigh and Embers for solo cor anglais by Pernille Faye were premiered together in 2022 by Nicholas Daniel and by Henry Clay respectively. These two works are published and were reviewed in issue 135 of Double Reed News. Publication of Spectre for solo bassoon by Pongtorn Techaboonakho (he/him), which was premiered by Amy Harman in 2023, is pending.

These compositions not only highlight the creativity of their composers but also enrich the double reed repertoire with fresh, innovative works. We look forward to these pieces gaining recognition and encourage performers to explore these compelling additions to the double reed canon.
