BDRS Honorary Membership awarded to Sarah Francis

Sarah Francis

The British Double Reed Society is delighted to announce that Sarah Francis has also been appointed an Honorary Member in recognition of her outstanding service and exceptional contribution to the double reed community.

As one of the most distinguished oboists of her generation, Sarah has made an extraordinary and lasting impact through her performing career, teaching, advocacy for double reed players, and unwavering support of musicians and students. Her pivotal role in BDRS, particularly during her time as Chair, is something we are all particularly grateful for. Her influence has been felt across the profession for many decades, both in the United Kingdom and internationally.

It had been intended to present Sarah Francis with Honorary Membership in time for the announcement in the previous issue of Double Reed News. Unfortunately, this proved impossible at the time, and we are therefore delighted to be able to make this announcement now.

A full tribute to Sarah Francis, written by Roger Birnstingl, Bassoon President of the British Double Reed Society, appears in the Summer 2026 issue of Double Reed News.
