Introducing the new BDRS Chair and Secretary

BDRS Chair: Catherine Millar

Following the Annual General Meeting of the British Double Reed Society on 12 July 2026, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Catherine Millar as Chair of the Society.

Catherine succeeds James Turnbull and will lead the Society as it continues its work in supporting double reed players across the UK through performance, education, collaboration and advocacy.

The Society is also pleased to announce the appointment of Claire Barker as Secretary. Claire joins the Executive Committee and will support the Society's governance and ongoing activities.

Following the AGM, the BDRS will operate with an Executive Committee of trustees overseeing governance and strategy. This will include the Chair (Catherine Millar), Secretary (Claire Barker) and Treasurer (Helen Nakhwal). In the future, there is scope for this committee to have an additional one to three trustees added to it.

The existing BDRS Committee will become the BDRS Main Committee and will feature a larger pool of volunteers and officers who will help in the operational aspects of the Society and its ongoing aim of promoting double reed music making across the UK.

To learn more about existing members of the committee, or if you are interested in joining BDRS as a volunteer in the near future, please visit the Committee page.
