Taking place at Trinity Laban on Sunday 5 July 2026 for the second annual FREE Double Reed Day open to oboe and bassoon players aged 11–18. Whether you’ve been playing for years or are in the early stages of learning, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills. The event will start at 11am and finish by 5pm.

Led by expert Trinity Laban woodwind teachers, the day will be an inclusive and inspiring environment to meet fellow double reed enthusiasts, develop your technique, and gain valuable insights into your instrument. As well as exploring techniques and repertoire, there will also be a reed-making workshop using our specialist equipment giving you a closer look at this essential aspect of double reed playing.

For those considering advanced study in music, we’ll also provide guidance on auditions, applications, and career pathways.

Learn how to adjust existing reeds or make your own from scratch, then play on your own reed in a mass double reed ensemble at the end of the day!

Open to all double reed players approximately Grade 3+ (as a general guide Year 5+). You don't need to be a Berkshire Music Trust student to take part. Parents are also welcome to register.

Howarth of London will provide a trade stand on the day with music, instruments and accessories to browse and buy.

Ensembles, chamber music, masterclasses, and reed-making sessions, alongside fellow enthusiasts, professionals and top suppliers.

Learn and play alongside professors from the Guildhall, and enjoy browsing the trade stands and exhibitors.

The Little, Big Double Reed Day is for all young people whether you’re new, experienced or curious about learning the oboe or bassoon.

The focus is on ensemble playing, preparing for a concert on November 2nd as part of the BIG Double Reed Day.

GDRD2025 will take place on Sunday, June 29th at Pate’s Grammar School, Cheltenham. The event starts at 10:00am and will finish by 5.30pm. There will be a Big Band, Masterclasses and a Concert featuring all players, reedmaking classes, chamber music coaching, try a Cor/d’Amore/Contra/Baroque oboe opportunities and shopping at the Trade Stands!

The Royal College of Music in London are holding their inaugural Double Reed Day on Sunday 21 January, beginning at 11:00. The day is aimed at anyone with a passion for double reed instruments, with opportunities for participation and observing.
